This incredible, critically endangered species can be found in Lorikeet Lagoon! This species breeds in Russia and north eastern China, but migrates to southern China, India, Bangladesh and Thailand. They live around lakes and rivers that house a lot of vegetation, this helps them build their nests. The females sit on the nest keeping the eggs warm whilst the males guard the nest and also feed the female. They’re a diving duck, meaning they feed by diving under the water for food. They eat plants, insects and small fish. Hunting and habitat destruction is contributing to their rapid decline. It’s believed that there are less than 100 individuals left in the wild.
