Eastern Giant Eland

General Information

The giant eland is the largest type of antelope, standing nearly six feet at the shoulder. The common eland is also about the same size; the “giant” in giant eland comes from its much larger, diverging horns. Both sexes have spiral horns, which can grow nearly four feet in length. Giant elands live in small herds and are mainly nocturnal, resting during the day in sheltered areas and coming out to browse in the evening.
