Kudu

General Information

The kudu is one of the largest antelope species. The long, spiral horns of the males are one of their impressive features, with an average length of 39 inches. Females do not have horns and are smaller, and the males also have a tasseled dewlap along their throats. Kudus are sociable animals, with groups of females and their offspring living in small herds. Adult males are more solitary or form loose bachelor groups, and have home ranges that overlap the ranges of two or three female groups. They are most active at dawn, dusk, and at night, and their coat pattern provides camouflage while resting under trees or brush during the day. If startled, they flee quickly, nimbly leaping over brush.
