Fishing cats are great swimmers and are completely at home in the water. Their paws have webbing between the toes to help with swimming and walking in muddy wetlands without sinking. This cat’s fur has two layers: one is very short and dense to keep the skin warm and dry; the other is composed of longer hairs, called guard hairs, that give the cat its color and pattern, which is great for camouflage when hunting in dappled light along rivers and streams in the forest.
