Cycads (Asian/Neotropical) Garden

General Information

Cycads are an ancient plant group that are represented all over the world, mostly in tropical and subtropical regions of Asia, Africa and the Americas. Often confused with palm trees, they are actually unrelated to any other modern plant family. Incredibly long-lived, some cycads are estimated to be over 1,000 years old. Our botanic garden has some of the rarest cycads in the world, and SDZWA is actively involved in cycad conservation and care. Cycads are also one of the most illegally trafficked plants in the world, endangering many of these beautiful and rare species. Stop by our many Cycad gardens to see these amazing ancient plants in our conservation care!
