Angolan Colobus Monkey

General Information

Two infants were born in the Angolan colobus monkey troop in 2014 but one birth was particularly notable: Lulu, a colobus mom whose name means “pearl” in Swahili, gave birth to her 20th offspring! At 29 years old, Lulu is the oldest Angolan colobus to give birth in any zoo. Her genes are incredibly valuable because she was born in the wild, which is a good thing since now four generations of Lulu’s offspring live in North American zoos! The Zoo oversees the AZA Species Survival Plan for this species.
