The seating area in the Dragon's Lair Café was once housed an indoor hippo pool until hippos left Chessington Zoo in 1993. A notable hippo that once lived at Chessington was Humphrey, who was once described as a ‘bad tempered beast’ who would regularly chase his keepers out of his enclosure, however this all changed when Claire Donovan joined the team, he took a liking to her and was said to of ‘behaved like a lamb’, she has been photographed riding on Humphrey’s back.
