Red Footed Tortoise

General Information

The Red Footed Tortoise gets it’s name from the red/orange scales on it's legs. This South American species can live up to 80 years old! They hatch from their eggs with a small shell on their back, this shell grows as they get older, the shell they hatch with is the shell they have for their whole life! The Red Footed Tortoise is an omnivorous species, they eat a lot of plant matter, but every so often, they do eat meat which they use their sharp beak to help them eat. Our Red Footed Tortoises can be seen in AMAZU, if you can't see them, they may be in the Monkey Walkthrough as they go over there on warmer days!
