Chuckwalla

Reaching nearly sixteen inches in total length, the chuckwalla is one of the largest lizard species found in the Sonoran desert, second only to the Gila Monster. When threatened, this flat-bodied lizard scurries into a rock crevice and gulps air to inflate its body. Wedging itself into the safety of the rocks makes it difficult for a predator to remove it.
